Gathering the Resources Many organizations, which work with children have taken steps toward preventing the abuse of any child. It is critically important that our church and related groups do the same.
In response to the needs of Presbyterians we serve, Synod of the Sun now offers this program of resources collectively called For the Safety of Our Children and Youth. Presbyteries, congregations and church-related institutions are invited to use these new resources to help ensure the young people in our care are safe. A task force of persons representing presbyteries and institutions worked for 10 months in research and discussion on this mission. The task force, empowered by the Synod Executive Committee, entered into a contract with IntelliCorp Records Inc. to provide a valuable component in the collection of resources For the Safety of Our Children and Youth. IntelliCorp is recommended because of its reputation as a premier provider of background checks and screening of employees and volunteers. Organizations perform such checks to be as thorough as possible in protecting young or vulnerable people. This is now required by some insurance providers. |

The
Presbyterian Church (USA) asserts the importance of caring for children
and youth. In 2001, the General Assembly declared the Decade of the
Child. The gifts and needs of children continue to be our special
priority through 2011.
