For the Safety of Our Children & Youth

A task force representing presbyteries and institutions worked 10 months to provide concrete help to anyone wanting to know what to do and where to go for help in providing For the Safety of Our Children and Youth. The Synod is thankful for the opportunity to offer help in three areas.

1. Policies
One can find sample written policies that groups or congregations can use to help formulate their own policies for the protection of our children and youth. There are three sample policies, one intended for a larger church and one for smaller churches.

2. Training
Sample training components to educate paid employees and volunteers on issues of awareness and prevention concerning the protection of our children and youth.

3. Background Checks
A safety policy usually advises or requires background checks for staff and volunteers working with young people. We realize this process may feel like an invasion of privacy, but keep in mind that background checks are not performed without written consent of the person being screened. As described on the previous page, the Synod recommends IntelliCorp Records Inc., to provide these background checks. Other providers are available.

Should you choose IntelliCorp, the $100 registration fee and $10 monthly access fee is waived for congregations, camps, conferences, ministries and institutions formally related to the Synod of the Sun or one of the 11 presbyteries of the Synod of the Sun.

Privacy and security are paramount. Each entity will register to create private account which is not accessible to any other user. And no background check shall be performed without the written permission of the person being screened.
